Top 3 Places to Learn to Dive

Learning to scuba dive has been an amazing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. This is due to a number of factors: my passion for the sport and my instructor, but mainly the incredible locations I was lucky to explore whilst doing my training. 

According to Original Diving, the top 3 places to learn how to scuba dive are Gozo, the Maldives, and Egypt. 

I was lucky enough to do my training in Malta and Gozo. The two small islands offer “the best diving in the Mediterranean”. Malta and Gozo have a wide variety of dive sites which cater for everyone, be it experienced divers or beginners. The article focuses mainly on what Gozo has to offer. 



The little sister to Malta, this small laidback island boasts the best diving in the Mediterranean with warm, turquoise waters more reminiscent of the tropics than of Europe. Add to that wrecks, caves, caverns and the Blue Hole (as mysterious and mesmerising as it sounds) to explore in superb visibility which regularly exceeds 30 metres, and we're confident you'll be hooked on diving for life. 

The Maldives are a group of islands which make up one of the most popular dive sites around the world. They are home to some of the “most sought after marine species” such as Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. Add crystal clear, calm waters to all of that and you will be a diver for life after an experience like that. 



Lastly, Original Diving lists Egypt as one of the best places for beginners. Egypt has “one of the best house reefs” in the world which is home to amazingly preserved coral and very diverse reef life. After becoming qualified, one can also dive with turtles, barracudas and also eagle rays.

BSAC Annual Report Shows an Increased Number of Fatalities

As with all sports activities, scuba diving comes with its risks. Most of these risks can be avoided if the diver plans his dive properly and keeps to the limits he creates and knows when to pass on a dive due to health problems.  The latest incident report by the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) shows that the UK experienced a rise in the number of fatalities due to scuba diving. The highest recorded number since 2004. The report states that between October 2017 and September 2018, 251 scuba diving incidents were reported, 19 of which were scuba diving fatalities. Welcome to All Things Scuba Diving! My name is Sara Micallef and I’m an avid scuba diver in training. I have acquired the first qualification and am now training for the second one to become completely qualified. My love for scuba diving came from my parents’ influence.
